Marie Ferree Diary - June 1713

It is a beautiful day. The summer months are now beginning. Our first summer here in Paradise will be a challenge. Living as farmers and pioneers is a new way of life for us, so different from the luxurious life style we had been used to. Despite the difficulties we all seem to be adjusting to this new territory very well and we count our blessings every day. Living here, no matter how difficult it is at times, is a better way of life as we can live without fear of persecution and live in freedom.

We now have two reasons to celebrate in the next few weeks. Philip and his bride, Leah, will be with us soon as they are making their way to us from New Paltz following their marriage. We will also celebrate the birth of Daniel, son of Isaac and my daughter, Catherine. Daniel who was born in March

is the first child to be born here in the Pequea Valley. He was named for my beloved husband and Catherine's father. What a tribute! We will celebrate both of these joyous events with a feast, music, and dancing. I am so thankful that all of my family will all now be together. Louer le seigneur.

Our new neighbors will be invited to join us so we can welcome them to the territory. We are so happy to have them here in Paradise; it will be less lonely now that they are here. They will also help our community grow. Bienvenue.

There is a lot of planning and preparation to be done for our celebration. Oh, how this planning makes me feel joyous and happy. So much to do to make it special for my family and our new friends.

Evening is now approaching and it is time to gather the livestock and prepare supper. Later the family will gather for evening worship and prayers. Un jour glorieux!
